What is the 2nd Seal?
The 2nd Seal
3 When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” 4 Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make people kill each other. To him was given a large sword. (Revelation 6: 3-4)
Most Bible scholars assert that the rider on the red horse represents the spirit of war. If this assumption is accurate, the 2nd Seal foretells of the wars that will take place in the end of this age.
He has the Power to Take Peace from the Earth
The 1st rider on the white horse was bent on conquest. The 2nd rider on the red horse appears to manifest the wars involved in that conquest.
He has the Power to Make People Kill Each Other
This rider has been given the power to make people kill each other. According to the Holy Bible, war will continue until the end of this age:
The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed. (Daniel 9: 26)
After the rider of the white horse (the spirit of the Antichrist) sets out as a conqueror, the rider of the red horse (the spirit of war) will begin to take peace from the earth and make people kill each other.
He was given a Large Sword
This rider was given a large sword. A sword generally represents warfare. A large sword indicates that this rider will be allowed to cause devastating carnage and desolation.
The Holy Bible has a prophesy about a war involving 200 million soldiers which results in a third of mankind being killed (the 6th Trumpet):
16 The number of the mounted troops was twice ten thousand times ten thousand. I heard their number… 18 A third of mankind was killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke and sulfur that came out of their mouths. (Revelation 9: 16, 18) NIV
Significance
The first 4 riders described in Revelation 6 work together to prepare the way for the Great Tribulation. Each rider plays a special role in events that take place before and during the Great Tribulation.
The 2nd rider appears to be a spirit of military power and war. It appears to prepare the way for the 6th Trumpet War (which precedes the Great Tribulation) and the One World Government (aka the beast).
What has this Rider already Accomplished?
It appears that the 2nd horseman of the Apocalypse was revealed in 2001 (a Shemitah year) when Islamic terrorists officially declared war against the non-Muslim world on 9/11. According to the Hebrew calendar, it happened on the 29th of Elul.
Since that time, there has been increasing terrorist activity by Islamic fundamentalists throughout the world. At this point, virtually every nation has experienced violent terrorist attacks by Islamic fundamentalists. No nation is safe. No person is safe.
Peace has been taken from virtually every corner of the earth.
