Is God Warning America?

Lately, many people seem to have an uneasy sense of impending doom. The world has become a very unstable place. Terrorist activity is increasing. There has been a significant increase of catastrophic events (e.g. tsunamis, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, flooding, wildfires).

Many nations of the world are experiencing economic challenges – and the USA is no exception. Most people believe that the excessive spending by the USA government is not sustainable. It looks like a house of cards that could collapse at any time.

Is something big about to happen? According to Bible prophesy: Yes.

When will it happen? That remains to be seen… however, there is a very strong possibility that something very significant will happen in September 2015.

Jehovah God is a God of order. He has been known to set a pattern so that people can realize that he is involved in what is happening. We need to understand what God has decreed and what he has already done. To start, let’s consider God’s emphasis on the Sabbath.

The 7th Day: The Sabbath Day

By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. (Genesis 2: 2-3)

Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work… 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. (Exodus 20: 8-11)

The Sabbath is very important to God. He declared the 7th day of the week to be a holy day. He made that declaration immediately after creating the heavens and the earth. God also included it as one of the 10 commandments.

The 7th Year: The Sabbath Year (Shemitah)

For six years sow your fields, and for six years prune your vineyards and gather their crops. But in the seventh year the land is to have a year of sabbath rest, a sabbath to the Lord. Do not sow your fields or prune your vineyards. Do not reap what grows of itself or harvest the grapes of your untended vines. The land is to have a year of rest. (Leviticus 25: 3-5)

21 I will send you such a blessing in the sixth year that the land will yield enough for three years. 22 While you plant during the eighth year, you will eat from the old crop and will continue to eat from it until the harvest of the ninth year comes in. (Leviticus 25: 21-22)

At the end of every seven years you must cancel debts. This is how it is to be done: Every creditor shall cancel any loan they have made to a fellow Israelite. They shall not require payment from anyone among their own people, because the Lord’s time for canceling debts has been proclaimed. (Deuteronomy 15: 1-2)

Just as the 7th day of the week is important to God, so is the 7th year. God ordered the Jews to let his land rest every 7 years. He promised to bless the crops of the 6th year so that there would be enough food for the 7th year, the 8th year, and the first part of the 9th year (until the harvest comes in).

In addition to letting the land rest, God made another decree about the Sabbath year: On the last day of the 7 year Sabbatical cycle, the Jews are to cancel debts among their own people. The end of the 7 year Sabbatical cycle is a time that impacts the nation’s economy.

The Year of Jubilee

“‘Count off seven sabbath years—seven times seven years—so that the seven sabbath years amount to a period of forty-nine years... 10 Consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you; each of you is to return to your family property and to your own clan. 11 The fiftieth year shall be a jubilee for you; do not sow and do not reap what grows of itself or harvest the untended vines. 12 For it is a jubilee and is to be holy for you… (Leviticus 25: 8, 9-12)

God established a very special year for rejoicing. It is called the Year of Jubilee. After 7 Sabbath years, the 50th year will be set aside as a time of restoration. The land is to rest. Property is to be restored. Debts are eliminated. Freedoms are to be restored.

The Blessing for Obedience

18 “‘Follow my decrees and be careful to obey my laws, and you will live safely in the land. 19 Then the land will yield its fruit, and you will eat your fill and live there in safety. (Leviticus 25: 18)

“‘If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit. Your threshing will continue until grape harvest and the grape harvest will continue until planting, and you will eat all the food you want and live in safety in your land. “‘I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid. I will remove wild beasts from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country. You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you. Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you. “‘I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you. (Leviticus 26: 3-9)

God made an eternal covenant with Abraham and promised to fulfill the covenant through Isaac. God made a covenant with the Jewish people. When God decreed that the Jews observe his holy Sabbaths, he promised to bless them abundantly if they kept his commands. He also promised to punish them if they rejected his decrees.

The Punishment for Disobedience

If you reject my decrees and abhor my laws and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant, 16 then I will do this to you… (Leviticus 26: 15-16)

33 I will scatter you among the nations and will draw out my sword and pursue you. Your land will be laid waste, and your cities will lie in ruins. 34 Then the land will enjoy its sabbath years all the time that it lies desolate and you are in the country of your enemies; then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths. 35 All the time that it lies desolate, the land will have the rest it did not have during the sabbaths you lived in it. (Leviticus 26: 33-35)

God promised to punish the Jewish people if they turned away from him and violated his covenant. He gave them several warnings to repent but they would not turn away from their sins. So, just as God kept his promise to bless their obedience, God kept his promise to punished their disobedience.

The 1st Jewish Temple is Destroyed

When the ancient Jewish people fell away from God, he sent them warnings that judgment was coming if they did not repent. They refused to heed God’s warnings and accept his correction for their wickedness. Therefore, God allowed the 1st Jewish Temple to be destroyed and the Jewish people to be taken captive.

The 2nd Jewish Temple is Destroyed

Many years later, God restored the Jews to their homeland and a 2nd Temple was built. Eventually the Jews again turned away from God and violated his holy covenant. Again God warned them and they refused to repent of their sins. In 69-70 AD, God allowed the 2nd Jewish Temple to be destroyed and the people taken captive.

More than Coincidence

The 1st and 2nd Jewish Temples were destroyed about 655 years apart but on exactly the same day of the Hebrew calendar: Tish’a B’Av.

A Covenant between God & the USA

Although the eternal covenant that God made with Abraham and the Jewish people is unique, it appears that God also made a covenant with the USA.

The USA is the only nation in the world that was established as a Christian nation and based its government on the Holy Bible. The Holy Bible was one of the two books used in early American schools. If they had only one book, it was the Holy Bible.

The early founders made a covenant with God and asked his blessings on the fledgling nation. As a result, God blessed the USA and it grew into the premier world power economically and militarily. But over the past 100 years, the USA has become increasingly less godly. Now it even denies that it was founded on Biblical principles or was ever a Christian nation.

America has broken its covenant with God. Just as God disciplined the Jewish people when they turned away from him, God will discipline the USA because it has turned away from him.

The 1st Warning

14 “‘But if you will not listen to me and carry out all these commands, 15 and if you reject my decrees and abhor my laws and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant, 16 then I will do this to you: I will bring on you sudden terror… (Leviticus 26: 14-16)

Since its inception, the USA has enjoyed the blessings of God. This included being under God’s protection. But on September 11, 2001 the USA was attacked by Islamic terrorists. God had briefly removed his protection from America. Although people called out to God for his help and protection, America did not repent and return to God.

This event occurred on the 29th of Elul (the last day of the Hebrew calendar). It occurred during a Shemitah year. Based on the Shemitah cycle, the event occurred on the only day in 7 years during which debts are cancelled.

The 2nd Warning

18 “‘If after all this you will not listen to me, I will punish you for your sins seven times over. 19 I will break down your stubborn pride... (Leviticus 26: 18)

After the 9/11 event, America became even more godless. On September 29, 2008 the world was stunned when the Wall Street Stock Market fell 777.7 points in a single day. It lost 7% of the market share (over 1.2 trillion dollars). This was the single most devastating event of the 2008 Global Economic Crisis.

This event occurred on the 29th of Elul (the last day of the Hebrew calendar). It occurred during a Shemitah year – 7 years after the terrorist attack of September 2001. Based on the Shemitah cycle, the event occurred on the only day in 7 years during which debts are cancelled.

The Next Warnings

21 “‘If you remain hostile toward me and refuse to listen to me, I will multiply your afflictions seven times over, as your sins deserve. 22 I will send wild animals against you… (Leviticus 26: 21-22)

23 “‘If in spite of these things you do not accept my correction but continue to be hostile toward me, 24 I myself will be hostile toward you and will afflict you for your sins seven times over. 25 And I will bring the sword on you to avenge the breaking of the covenant. When you withdraw into your cities, I will send a plague among you, and you will be given into enemy hands. (Leviticus 26: 23-25)

Based on the 7 year cycle, the next 29th of Elul is on September 13, 2015. If God chooses to continue with the pattern he has established, there is a very strong possibility that he will again remove his protection from America on that day – and possibly for a period longer than a day.

It is unclear as to which of the next warnings/punishments God will invoke. Since the end of the age is very near, this next event could be a series of major events that happen quickly in succession.

What might Happen?

Although the first 2 harbingers activated in the USA, they had an impact on the entire world. Whatever is about to happen is likely to impact the world. Also, each of the harbingers have been less obvious but their impact has increased. The first harbinger got everyone’s attention (exploding/collapsing buildings). The second harbinger was quieter (wall street collapse) but it had a bigger impact on the world. The third harbinger may be difficult to recognize but it will have an even greater impact on the world.

So far, both the harbingers have been primarily economic in nature. Even if the next event is economic, it is likely to be severe enough for the enemies of the USA to attempt to use it to their advantage. The enemies of the America are likely to strike at the USA while it is crippled and recovering from a massive economic crisis. If that is the case, a devastating war (see What is the 6th Trumpet?) could occur immediately after a devastating economic crisis.

What can We Do?

Based on recent court rulings by ungodly judges and increasingly ungodly behaviors by many Americans, it is unlikely that we can avoid what is likely to happen next month. But there is still hope. God will help us through whatever he allows if we would repent of our sins, turn back to God, and abide by our original covenant with him.

14 If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7: 14)
